Dumbmoney, <Did the Unobtanium FP registers shrink while I wasn't watching?> No. How many FP registers did you think Itanium had? The question was not how many, but how big. You said 64 bits. I thought they were 82 bits or so, but it's been 4 years since I read the spec. <I wonder if SMT will be hard(er) to implement because of the large number of architectural registers.> Who said Itanium had or is going to have SMT? Well, certainly CPUs in general are going in the SMT direction. Maybe IA64 will die out before it matters.
