Bin Laden still needs his medication, Blair's a stand up guy and Chirac finally grows a pair.
Bin Laden Praises God for Sept. 11 Attacks
CAIRO, Egypt (AP) – Osama bin Laden praised God for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and swore America "will never dream of security" until "the infidel's armies leave the land of Muhammad," in a videotaped statement aired after the strike today by the United States and Britain. The taped comments appeared to be made in daylight, meaning the video was recorded before tonight's attack. "America was hit by God in one of its softest spots. America is full of fear from its north to its south, from its west to its east. Thank God for that," bin Laden said.
Blair: Britain Will Continue to Attack Taliban Targets
LONDON (AP) – Britain kept its promise to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the United States against terrorism, adding its firepower to the first wave of attacks today against Afghanistan. Prime Minister Tony Blair, speaking live on television, announced that British missile-firing submarines joined the operation. He said British warplanes will attack Afghan targets in the next few days and other British forces are standing ready.
Chirac Offers French Military Support
PARIS (AP) – President Jacques Chirac pledged today that French troops will participate in the U.S. led military offensive against Afghanistan, the first time the French leader has made an offer of such direct support. "Our forces will participate," Chirac told the nation in a televised address. He said that the United States had made new requests for French military participation in recent days. "The fight against terrorism is complex and without mercy," Chirac said. |
