Of course it's self serving... But that doesn't mean that they would completely fabricate that inane conversation between the German and Assad... We have examples of European appeasement and false naivete that go back centuries. In fact, it makes tremendous sense in explaining why Sharon would feel compelled to make such a controversial statement... Israel, as I've stated before, is the "fly in the oinment" that could unravel this coalition. Bush knows it, Bin Laden knows it, and so does every other party who might be trying to influence international opinion. I have no doubt they were seeking to set Israel up as being some kind of impediment to creating this coalition... Sharon knows that no one really cares about Israel's security interests, just as no one really cares about forming a Palestinian state. All people want is stability and they don't care how they achieve it, or whether it will become even more unstable down the line. Btw, recall that I'm the person who opines that certain Israeli intelligence agencies may have known about this attack before it happened. 5 Israelis were reported to be video-taping the WTC attack on Sept. 11th from across the harbor. Haven't heard much about this since and I imagine it's been hushed up. Israel will do what's in their own interest and if someone threatens to sell them out, they will take the necessary steps to ensure their position is respected. After all, Israel could derail this entire coalition, and make the US position FAR MORE perilous. Hawk
