Thanks Addi

Addi, I do not consider myself biased... I mainly argue from the understanding of the Arabic language of Quran ... flawed translations have done a great harm to Islam ...

you pointed out to an error I made on my translation... what the verse in Quran actually says is what amounts to that men are the decision makers because of the responsibility they bear supporting the family... actually, the Arabic word is "quwaamoon" and you can look it up if you so desire... I am wrong in saying that in that verse the Quran says that men are one notch above women... I had just finished reading the posting of the link you want me to respond to and used the same wording without much thought... I apologize.

and as far as divorce goes, in a "true" Islamic society, when the woman is divorced, she gets whatever she and the husband had agreed to before marriage, in effect, similar to a prenuptial agreement ... meaning, she can specify whatever she wants to get in the case of divorce if the husband to be agrees to it, and same for the man... and it is all enforceable by law... this may not be currently practiced in todays Muslim marriages because of the lack of planning... people get married and do not think or plan to what will happen if divorce is to happen... and who is to blame for that ? Islam or the people involved...!

also, in Islam it is the duty and responsibility of the woman's male relatives to take care of her in case of divorce...

so, as you see, Islam gave the man and the woman the choice of what to do... one can not say not many male relatives will take care of their divorced female relatives if they divorce, hence Islam is wrong in giving the option for the woman to divorce because she can not do so anyway for the conditions you stipulated...

Addi, that is why it is very important to know who one is marrying into... man and woman need to ask themselves a lot of questions and what ifs before agreeing to marry... not only that, they even need to document it in their marriage papers

regards
amein
