When we supported the Afghans against the Soviets, President Reagan called them, "Heroes, freedom fighters. . ." now that the tables are turned, they're terrorists.

This is an oversimplification of what was a complex situation. The majority of the Mujahedin leadership the U.S. supported during the war with the Soviets are now part of the Northern Alliance. Most notably, Ahmad Shah Massoud, who was killed (not coincidentally) two days before the 9/11 attack.
