Democracy indeed came from the Greeks. I suspect that if you ask NEO he would have a reference for you on this.
As far as progressive, the only progression I see today is a progression towards more and more sexual freedom not intellectual and rational thinking. The so-called progressives are very smug in their rejection of religion but they are just as dogmatic and rigid in their thinking as any religious extremist.
Their progression is a relentless and constant march towards lowering and destroying all barriers towards sexual indulgence(including with children and animals) and the removal of religion from society. That is also why they tend to be anti-family (Marxist). Trying to engage in a philosophical discussion with a PC freak is just as futile and a waste of time as trying to discuss philosophy with a so-called Jesus freak.
