Tony Blair is the best Prime Minister since Winston Churchill. His magnificent, understated oratory gives Britain a role on the world’s stage far out of proportion to its actual power.

As far as post war British prime minister's go I'm partial to Margaret Thatcher. My opinion of Blair has gone up a bit lately though.

The United States does not show enough appreciation for the friendship of Great Britain.

Maybe sometimes we don't but I think overall it is pretty clear that many in the US appreciate the long standing friendly and supportive relationship between our two countries.

Do women really oppose violence?

Some are pacifists. Many support justified violence although statistically they apparently support less violence or want more justification then men. Some are violent themselves. I'm not sure how accurate of impression you get when you try to generalize from those who are in abusive relationships, or the very few who would do things like flirt with someone they suspect might be a serial killer.

On the other hand, in all fairness, if any baseball team of today was to play the greatteams of the past. like the 1929 Yankees, the result would be a laughable rout of the Ruth and Gehrig contingent.

Ruth and Gehrig could play today, but not everyone back then, or even everyone on the 1929 Yankees was a Ruth or a Gehrig. It would be interesting to see a game between the 1929 Yankees and a modern team where the old Yankees where allowed to use spitballs, and the modern team had to play with the old equipment (very bad mitts, heavy bats, balls that would not be replaced frequently and got dirty and scuffed).
Edit - This assumes that the modern team gets no time to prepare for the different rules, equipment and conditions, the old team would need every advantage that they could get.

As to football, basketball, soccer, and hockey ... give it up you wannabe sports.

Football is the premier TV sport. Baseball gains a lot more from actually being there then football does. I'm not that in to hockey and still less soccer but I'd hardly call them wannabe sports. If I was going to play one of these sports or watch it on TV it would be football. Basketball would probably be next (if I can include sports that you didn't list).
