Not only that, but OPEC is an anti-competitive entity, and as such an argument could be made that OPEC countries are stealing money from the US.

Nothing against OPEC, but I would like to argue that the US is paying more than a fair price for the oil they import.


There is another way of looking at it, and that is that oil the west gets from the middle east is essentially free. Minus the billions that go into the royal family's Swiss bank accounts (still a fraction of the total), most of the rest returns to the west. Countries like Saudi Aribia have squandered their chance to build an industrial base with their oil profits. All forms of goods and contracting services must be imported. Dollars we give them for oil are quickly handed back to us. What happens when the oil runs out?
