Haim, a positive outcome along those lines would be great...but how realistic is it to hope for one?
my impression is that in order to truly eliminate the hate that has produced the Islamist extremists and their terror, a great deal of fundamental change has to occur, and not all of it to our liking.
if not for our support of the moderate feudalistic and secular regimes in the Middle East i believe the whole region would be in danger of a fundamentalist take-over. even relatively Westernized Turkey, with its 75 year old secular tradition has seen a fundamentalist Islamic party come to power and it could only be removed from its position by undemocratic means.
