One response to this post had the tone that you should forget preparing if you are a civilian. While I agree that a full body suit is a bit much for civilians to try, gas masks can be used by intelligent civilians. I personally know several that have used them effectively against pepper spray, tear gas. Also negative ions can be very effective at removing many things from the air including bacteria. One can readily buy a combination air filter negative ion generator. I had one in my home for years and it kept the air quite clean and dropped so much crap out of the air that I had to paint the walls near it on a regular basis. War and civilian defense are two different things. Hiding in a small sealed room in your house with a gas mask and a negative ion generator is a different game than fighting with a gas mask on. Telling people they cannot do anything to prepare is down right irresponsible. The Israeli civilians used gas mask during the attacks buy Iraq. In case of nuclear fall out having Iodine at hand is a matter of life and death. Radioactive Iodine is one of the Hottest Isotopes and fries you thyroid quite well unless you ingest enough Iodine so that your body does not need it. Taking thyroid pills prevents the adsorption of radio active Iodine. Fortunately it has a very short half life. In two weeks or so the danger is gone. Iodine is cheap and available at your local drug store. I have had Iodine around for years and have plenty now and I don't worry. Glad to see some one acting responsible. Get the masks. Learn how to use them and then don't worry. If the worst happens your prepared. With luck we won't need them. I do not have the dosages for the Iodine at hand, I'll Pm you soon with those. R
