RESEARCH ALERT - eSpeed cut from recommended list

NEW YORK, Oct 8 (Reuters) - JP Morgan said on Monday it removed Cantor Fitzgerald's electronic brokerage eSpeed Inc. <ESPD.O> from its "trading recommended list" in the wake of the September 11 attacks on the United States, which caused the loss of "many key eSpeed employees."

"eSpeed's technology platform is intact but the company needs to recreate itself after confronting the loss of so many key personnel," the firm said in a research report.

"Until there is clarity regarding new management and their ability to execute upon the promise of its attractive core markets we cannot recommend investors purchase this stock," the firm said.

Shares of eSpeed lost 71 cents, or 12 percent, to $5.20 in morning trading on Nasdaq.
