John, the ramifications of the military moving out of the South China sea can have economic ramifications as well as political. If China uses the current activities in Afghanistan to make a move on Taiwan, it will sour the U.S./China relations, which could have negative economic fallout.

I think that China's desire to be a member in good standing with the WTO will likely cause them to pullback at the last minute. But they may decide to do a show of force.
