but I would favor a law guaranteeing every American the right to display our country's flag at a place of employment. I would not. Such a law grants the individual the "right", but imposes on the company an obligation. A company should legally be able to allow or disallow displaying whatever they want (subject to the limitation that what they allow has to be generally legal, for example no child pornography). I might support or at least would not oppose a protest against the company (as long as the protest doesn't destroy anything or impede business) but I would not want the government to force someone to display (or allow one of their employees to display) a flag or anything else in their place of business. What astounds me is that we are always being cajoled to respect other cultures when we travel and not to insist on forcing American ways upon others. Respecting others should be reciprocal. They should respect American ways as well. There is a difference between suggesting that respect and tolerance for the ways or culture of others should be considered important, and forcing people to follow those customs. Tim
