I understand the 'techniques' of valuation but I am much less certain of the applications. I don't know that I would really distinguish the two. Merely computing a number is meaningless unless one has a means to apply it. Without the application, I might as well just look up standard numbers on popular websites instead of computing my own since I'm not going to do anything with it anyway!
