He was willing to spend his own money and that made him important to the men he funded. pbs.org The US was funding the resistance in Afghanistan, not bin Laden. The people we were funding were not like bin Laden, they were more moderate, and they had to flee the Taliban or were killed by the Taliban. A number of them are refugees here in Northern Virginia. I've mentioned before that a former client of mine was at one time the Mayor of Kabul. The United States is not the source of their misery. We give far more humanitarian aid to Afghanistan than any other country.
