If you admit that sometimes higher wages are justified and ought to be demanded, you must admit that such demands much be credible and powerful. Very often, if you don't want to be laughed out of your boss's office, you'll need some sort of organized force behind you. Such forces often are labor unions -- often identified with, at the outset anyway, communism.
