It also explains why Intel has been getting so little benefit from their .13 process in terms of power consumption. PIII saw almost no drop in amperage when it moved from .18 Aluminum to .13 copper. We'll have to wait for more steppings to be sure, but it looks like they've only gotten about a 25% speed increase from a full generation move from .18 Aluminum to .13 copper. AMD got as much of a speed boost and power consumption cut going from .18 Aluminum to .18 Copper. Remember all the stuck pig squealing from the Intellabees that copper was of no use on .18? I can't wait to see what happens when the "no use" AMD SOI process kicks in.
