Rajala, if you are going to post, at least get your facts correct.

EDGE does not exist at this time. There is no EDGE equipment currently available anywhere made by anyone. If you think otherwise, please give me the facts and specific references.

The GSM-GPRS path is well travelled, but no one has gone to EDGE because there is no equipment for it right now (there may be at some point).

The GSM-GPRS-EDGE-WCDMA path is not inherently backwards compatible, unless the operator is selling multi-mode phones and both RF frequencies in the same phone, while maintaining all necessary existing prior networks. Since there is no EDGE equipment yet, you have one big problem. Another is that Europe still hasn't even set its standards for WCDMA yet.

We should all be skeptical about both Qualcomm's path and the GSM routes, and deal with that skepticism by finding out the facts, not spouting the propaganda put out by manufacturers in Europe that are hoping to keep a large market segment from defecting to CDMA2000.
