What a terrific piece. As a fellow East European, I can confirm that most people around the world have no clue how America works. They are green with envy at our wealth, but have no idea how we created it, or that we are forever creating more of it out of thin air.
To most non-Americans, wealth is a constant, a zero-sum game. Prosperity is neither created nor destroyed, but just moved from the poor to the rich by nefarious means. Ergo, if you are rich, you are by definition nefarious. You deserve to be knocked down a notch.
So instead of working hard to create something of value, people in my native part of the world (and Berkeley, too) spend all their time knocking successful people down a notch. Sometimes they knock down whole buildings.
What a waste of lives on both sides.
I have only one solution. We must unabashedly broadcast the American entrepreneurial Capitalist message to the masses around the world, with the same fanatical fervor as Lenin, Mao, or bin Laden, until our message is heard: you can create prosperity out of thin air, in unlimited amounts - just get rid of your feudal and socialist governments and embrace democracy and capitalism.
Capitalists of the World, Unite!
