Some of these quotes make you think they ought to put a helmet back on their head to help them think! They are making sure Yogisms will go on and on , why it's deja-vu all over again.

FOX NFL Sunday SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Video: Boomer roughs up Deacon
Dallas does it right
Say what? Sunday in sound
Oh my Donovan!
Jillian does the Week 4 weather
Jimmy entertains "Daniel Snyder"
Howie sticks up for fellow lineman
Analyst Howie Long on the NFL's decision to fine Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Gerard Warren $35,000 this week, for hitting Jacksonville quarterback Mark Brunell last Sunday:
"How ridiculous is this? After an interception, a quarterback then becomes a defender, and the spirit of the rule is that you have to give the quarterback time to get to a defensive position. What!? He's now a defender. Hit the guy. You're taught as a defensive lineman from day one that after an interception, you search one guy out-the quarterback."
QB controversy in Detroit
FOX NFL Sunday host James Brown: The question that Terry has just irritated us with all week long is, "How is it that Ty Detmer, after a seven-interception game, still has a starting job Monday night while Charlie Batch sits on the pine?"
Analyst Cris Collinsworth: "JB, you must ask the question that you want to ask. Ask [Terry] why Charlie Batch -- a black quarterback -- had one bad game out there, but Ty Detmer -- a white quarterback -- had a worse game, but did not get benched."
Brown: "The last conversation that we had, under the surface there appeared to be that little tone. I simply wanted [Terry] Bradshaw to explain definitively why Batch doesn't work for the system and why Detmer does."
Terry Bradshaw: "I recently went through my third divorce, so I don't point fingers at anybody. I simply made a bad choice. I made a bad choice with the first one, I made a bad choice with the second one, made a bad choice with the third one. You know what -- they all cost me! The same thing is happening in Detroit. They made a bad choice with Batch, they're making a bad choice with Detmer. I wouldn't turn on the TV to watch either of these guys."
Howie breaks down problems in Dallas, D.C.
Analyst Howie Long on the struggles experienced thus far in the Cowboys and Redskins organizations:
"I think we've seen this looming over Dallas for a couple of years, perhaps the only one who hasn't realized it is Jerry Jones," Long said. "Jerry is an extraordinary business man and he has been loyal to his football players. If Jerry has a stock tip, I listen.
"But Jerry is not a personnel man. He probably started this process a year or two late, unlike San Francisco, who started seven defensive rookies last year.
"In terms of Washington, [owner Daniel Snyder] is simply a guy that went in and bought his own fantasy football team. But how you treat players, how you treat your coaches and how you treat the organization is how you gain respect. You don't get respect by just buying a football team."
Cris Collinsworth: "I played against Marty Schottenheimer for many years when I was with Cincinnati. I've always had a lot of respect for his teams, they're always well-prepared. But I did not recognize the Marty Schottenheimer that took over the Washington Redskins. He was acting more like Daniel Snyder up there. He was pompous, he was arrogant, the players were rolling their eyes at him-he has to get this team back under his wing."
And then there's Jimmy Kimmel
After the conclusion of the "Jimmy's Picks" segment, co-host Terry Bradshaw quipped: "The President did say that it's time for our nation to get back to laughter, so maybe Kimmel will start next week."
FSN NFL This Morning NFL This Morning's Marv Levy on the strong criticism of many of the NFL coaches off to poor starts this season: "They're natural targets. They have to take the blame. What are they going to do, point the finger at the players they're trying to get to buy into their teachings?"
Levy on the rash of season-ending injuries that have occurred this year: "It's stunning. All the ACL injuries. It's accentuated more today because of the salary cap restrictions. Teams don't have the depth. A big problem is the year-round practicing and mini-camps. It takes its toll on the players. Teams must be more judicious in how much these players work out. I'm not saying to take it easy when they do practice, but the amount of time the players are working out, doesn't allow them the proper time to recuperate."
NFL This Morning's Deacon Jones on the biggest surprise to date in the NFL: "It has to be the St. Louis Rams defense. With the defensive unit they've formed, the Rams are not only the best team in the NFC, they're the best team in the entire league."
On the issue of Quarterback Safety
Deacon Jones: "It's too much protection. What do we pay these guys for?"
Boomer Esiason: "The Gerard Warren hit [on Mark Brunell] was definitely and clearly a vicious hit that was outside the rules."
Marv Levy on seeing a replay of Buffalo Bills defender Bruce Smith delivering a hit that sent then-New York Jets quarterback Esiason out of the game: "I was really upset with what Smith did. Our one chance to win the game was with you [Esiason] playing quarterback."
Player Mutiny In Washington
Deacon Jones: "They have some internal problems. A coach who comes in and does not respect the veteran players is going to have problems."
Boomer Esiason: "A lot of egos and a lot of high paid salaries. They're not playing up to their capabilities and they're blaming the coach."
Taking on the New York Jets
Billy Ray Smith: "You wonder how long Paul Hackett is going to live off the success of the early 80s with the 49ers. He's destroyed a couple of college programs and a couple of pro teams, and it looks like he's doing the same thing in New York. Wayne Crebet, three catches a game is not going to cut it. The guy has to get more balls thrown to him."
Boomer Esiason: "The players need to play better. They had 18 missed tackles last week. They played a good flag football game."
Coach Levy's Critiques:
Marv Levy on his former team, the Buffalo Bills: "They're suffering from the two 'I's:' Injuries and Inexperience which leads to the third 'I:' Ineffectiveness."
Levy on New England Patriots defender Bryan Cox: "He has a very misguided sense of leadership. He's good at pep talks, but they're better for the other team."
Levy on the Baltimore Ravens: "This is the best defense I have ever seen. You need to attack them in a very unorthodox way, no-huddle. Don't give them time to communicate. Try to tire them out. Don't give them time to line up. Even if you're off the field in a hurry, their offense doesn't scare me. Their offense is very mediocre."
Levy on the legitimacy of the Green Bay Packers: "They're for real. They have great balance. They're the team that has the best chance to knock off the St. Louis Rams for the NFC title."
Sunday Quotebook
Howie Long discussing the woeful Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys with the NFLTM crew: "Today's game is dictated by a calculator, not a stop watch."
Jay Mohr on his recent stint on the game show Weakest Link: "I haven't been that humiliated since I had the dream where I went to high school naked."
Mohr on the Minnesota Vikings receivers: "Randy Moss and the rest of the guys, you go to practice, they're arguing over who gets to ride the Big Wheel." |
