Yes, each and every one of us and in whatever we do.

Perhaps, because I live in South Africa, I am more used to living on the "side of a volcano" than many others, so fear and insecurity have been part of my life for some time already. Eventually, after one does what one can to minimize threats, one gets used to making a life in the shadow of those problems. There is a limit to what one can do. Still, I would much rather have the problems which I have than those facing Pres Bush.

Yes, in many ways Bush is doing well. In fact, we can all be grateful that he's in charge and not Gore or, even worse, Clinton. But I feel he falls too much under the influence of the gung-ho guys eg Wolfowitz. I would be much happier to see Colin Powell running the show.

I would also be happier if something solid had been achieved towards solving the Mid-East problem but that now seems further away than ever.

I think you are wise to have a big position in gold. Mine is about 15% of my portfolio, but all of my investments are currency hedges (against the weak rand) and mostly outside SA (as a hedge against the local political and economic uncertainties).
