Petz, my take on "grades":

1. Collaboration with Microsoft, not just stealing a name: A+, excellent

I'll agree to that. A+

2. Arthur Andersen - brilliant stroke, A+

Well, to me this is more a curiosity than anything else. I can hardly justify anything above a B.

3. "Fastest desktop processor" but rating only at 1800+. This is really, really smart, IMO, others may disagree. But it makes Intel's numbers "suspect." Score it an A.

I'll give "making the performance rating conservative" an A+, still not being able to match Intel's highest a C (still a passing grade, but only because it does match Intel's highest in Actual Performance).

4. Developing independent benchmarks. Well, we'll see if they are accepted. Good to try it, 'B'.

The more the merrier ;-). Still, AMD should probably focus its limited efforts on getting existing benchmarks optimized instead of diddling with new ones. I'll give it a B.

A few you didn't include:

5. Getting Windows Media Encoder optimized for AthlonXP such that the 1800+ now beats the 1.8GHz P4 in BAPCO's SysMark.

A++

6. Not actively and massively distributing and pushing the patch (enabling the Media Encoder optimizations).

F

7. Not making said patch public at all.
