Newest ARRIS Multimedia Terminal Adapter Now Available for Customer Field Trials

DULUTH, Ga., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- ARRIS (Nasdaq: ARRS - news; a new company formed by the merger of ANTEC and Arris Interactive, L.L.C.), a global communications technology leader in the development of advanced cable telephony solutions and the delivery of converged services across the broadband local access network, today announced field trial availability of the Touchstone(TM) Telephony Modem. This new solution will allow operators to provide early roll out of Telephony over IP (ToIP(TM)) services, enabling them to expand their subscriber base and build new revenue streams.

The Touchstone Telephony Modem is a compact, indoor IP multimedia terminal adapter (MTA), providing both telephony and high-speed data services to subscribers via hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) networks. Built upon Packet Port(TM) technology, which has been in operator deployments for over one year, the Touchstone Telephony Modem offers two lines of IP telephony based on the CableLabs® PacketCable(TM) specification and high-speed data via an Ethernet 10/100BaseT or USB interface. This solution from ARRIS is based on Texas Instruments' chipsets.

The Touchstone Telephony Modem is based on the DOCSIS(TM) and Euro-DOCSIS 1.1 specifications and is software upgradeable from any of the operator's network servers. The Touchstone Telephony Modem is a key element of the ARRIS CompleteVoice(TM) cable telephony solution. ARRIS will submit the Touchstone Telephony Modem to CableLabs for DOCSIS 1.1 testing in Wave 20.

``The Touchstone Telephony Modem provides true convergence of IP-based telecommunications by delivering the quality of service that subscribers expect,'' said Stan Brovont, ARRIS' Vice President of Marketing, Broadband business unit. He continued, ``Combined with the ARRIS DOCSIS 1.1 Qualified CMTS 1500, this product offers operators a great way to demonstrate to subscribers the capabilities of cable telephony. A key benefit is the ease of installation, which provides a quick, low-cost means for operators to enter this growing market''.

Peter Percosan, Director of Broadband Strategy, Texas Instruments stated, ``We're excited that ARRIS has quickly incorporated our technology in their Touchstone Telephony Modem. Our vendors and operators alike can offer equipment with confidence that their investments will be standards compliant and be supported by the world class quality of TI semiconductor technologies''.
