And for Sun fortunately that is exactly what Microsoft marketing is thinking and has forced their R&D to provide the J/Direct! With the introduction of Java and soon the explosive growth of thin client architecture, you dont want to please developers anymore, but regular consumers! Being tied to one particular OS, despite all the nice things it provides, does not go with the concept of selling thin client software to regular consumers who dont want to spend much money! It will take time, but everyone, and I do really mean everyone, will see exactly what powerful concept Sun's Java technology of writing once and running everywhere has provided to the industry. The big winners are regular consumers and those companies that target those consumers. Developers preference is no longer relevant! It is the consumer market and regular consumer needs that will dictate how they should write their software.
