Maybe lovely wasn't the right word. It was impressive. Maybe it's my Catholic upbringing but I think houses of worship should be posh. If you can't hold religious services in a posh place, you should do so in a lovely outdoor setting. Praying somewhere with draperies from K-Mark and plastic chairs just doesn't cut it.

I don't remember the Crystal Cathedral very well. I remember being impressed with the expanse of it and all that glass. I also remember that it was extremely well appointed. Everything was done up right. The seats were plush and comfortable. The wood was polished and smooth to the touch.

My brand of humanism wants to see people at their best, elevated to their most noble selves. A good religion would do that, seems to me. Most of them don't. Houses of worship should be elegant. Play Bach or its non-Western equivalent. Definitely not country music, although my dad tells me that mariachi masses are nice.
