I think the goal here is a struggle for the moral high ground. One the one hand, we have 7000 innocent Americans just killed - - on the other, we have 500,000 Iraqi children and all the dead children in Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

Bin Laden says that it's ok to kill innocent Americans because Americans kill innocent people, too.

Thomas and his ilk are playing the part of Tokyo Rose, Axis Sally, Lord HawHaw, and so on. Every person they cause to feel doubt is one fewer person against their cause.
