Alcan is pleased to present the exhibition "Aluminum by Design" at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts from August 23 to November 4, 2001. This groundbreaking exhibition shows how aluminum and its unique properties have inspired designers in fields as diverse as sculpture, furniture and home decor, jewellery, architecture, fashion, and the aerospace and robotic industries. Alcan's sponsorship of this exhibition is a natural extension of the company's contribution to the development of this metal and its place as a world leader in the industry.

"Alcan is very pleased to be able to make this international exhibition available to the people of Montreal and thus contribute to the cultural life of the city that has been home to our corporate headquarters since 1929," said Mr. David McAusland, Senior Vice President, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Chief Legal Officer. "This exhibition outlining the evolution of the use of aluminum coincides with the hundredth anniversary of the first time aluminum was cast in Canada - an event with which Alcan is very closely associated. Our collaboration with the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts on the presentation of "Aluminum by Design" represents another opportunity for us to commemorate this event."

Alcan, which has opted for a unique form of sponsorship that is closely related to and integrated with the theme of this exhibition, is involved in two ways - through the contribution of physical objects and through educational component. The Company is represented physically within the exhibition by three works from the Maison Alcan collection and in the entrance hall of the Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion by a four-metre-high aluminum tree symbolizing recycling and environmental protection - issues that are very important to Alcan. Lastly, in front of the Museum, visitors can admire the entire aluminum body of an Audi A2, the first mass-produced car containing a high percentage of aluminum and the result of a joint initiative involving Alcan and Audi.

As part of its educational contribution, the Company is organizing a contest based on the exhibition and will offer prizes including a week-long, all-expenses-paid trip to London as well as a weekend in New York City. It will also encourage visitors to become more familiar with the properties and applications of aluminum through an insert in the exhibition guide. Alcan will also participate in the educational workshops for the youngest visitors by providing aluminum foil.

Alcan is a multinational, market-driven company and a global leader in aluminum and specialty packaging with annual revenues of approximately US$13 billion. With world-class operations in primary aluminum, fabricated aluminum as well as flexible and specialty packaging, Alcan is well positioned to meet and exceed its customers' needs for innovative solutions and service. Alcan employs 52,000 people and has operating facilities in 38 countries.
