Right on target, IMHO. One need not have just one appliance for all applications. I much prefer the idea of a hand held computer with a screen width of at least 6-inches and normal size keyboard for travel use. I think of a handset as basically for voice, or possibly for stock quotes, but not at all for obtaining text or graphics of any length or detail. Regardless of which appliances are to be used, the trend is toward wireless and away from fixed, wired connections. The ideal hand held computer would be small enough to fold into a vest pocket, would have built in wireless capability, and no moving parts (using flash memory instead of higher power consumption disk drive). The LCD screen might be improved through the use of OLED (organic light emitting diode), permitting more detail in a smaller screen size. Everything except the screen is already proven in design. The only thing preventing this scenario from happening immediately is the reluctance of service providers to use the data access capabilities of CDMA.
