The question I have is, Does he want to trade or invest?

If he's just getting started "investing" I'd suggest mutual funds instead of individual stocks until he's has some experience. Diversify

If he interested in "Trading" the only book I read was "Trading is a Business" by Joe Ross. I'd suggest a subscription to SI and read the Daytrading Fundamentals thread from the start. A wealth of info lies there. From there he can then find his own way.

THe other book I feel is a must read is Zen in the Markets by Edward Toppel.
