A lot of this article is bullshit.
Article 371 underlines the law which governs the ownership of property, business, land in Kashmir.
It states that no, absolutely no person who isn't a Kashmiri, can legally own any property, land, or business in Kashmir. If a Kashmiri was married to a non kashmiri, their children lost all claims to the property, land or business.
This article 371, which protected Kashmiri Moslems from losing their 'power', and prevented them from being subjected to the 'indignity' of working for the industrialist Hindu's of India, also prevented any economic activity or growth in the region.
Traditionally, Kashmiri Moslems have never been very enterprising, except for carpet manufacturing. The law they enforced to protect themselves and prevent the local Hindus, who formed the educated and literate part of population, from getting too powerful.
The law came back to bite them. |
