The speaker Friday night was Richard Moll, who has been in admissions at Vassar, Bowdoin, and several other bigname places. He wrote a book called The Public Ivies, which lists colleges he thinks compare favorably with the highly selective private sector. As we were in Va, he mentioned UVa and William and Mary. I don't know if Texas has one or not. Guess I'd better buy the book. Is the education really that superior or are we paying for the right to stick a name on the resume? Wouldn't emphasizing the status of certain name universities just be another symptom of misplaced values?
And I really need a new car...
