Yes the .45 is heavy and has a good kick, but if you practice with it can be a very good friend in time of need! Perhaps your Ex would have been better off with a .44 special with a two inch barrel. Lighter pistol but very strong punch.

Flame throwers are of course are heavy and are not good for use around home furnishings. Also someone needs to have a match ready and in these days of fewer smokers that can be a problem.

Had three years at sea. LPH, LST, and CG. Not an expert but I don't think the 5 inch 54 was made for shore bombardment and with the lack of practice ranges you needed to give the boys in blue a little extra room.

For close air support we used to say the difference between the Marine Pilots and the Air Force was 5000 feet. For snake and nape you could see the pilots face and wave before diving into your fighting hole.
