Hmmm... no, I'm afraid you've mistaken Paris Match for Ici Paris, an infamous tabloid indeed. Although Paris Match's motto is "Le poids des mots, le choc des photos", I don't think they're on their own in this Afghan scam. Just Recall the Jolo (Philippines) (*) put-up job by the DGSE --the French need sort of a bargaining chip to strong-arm the Yanks into getting them on board. It's humiliating enough for the French to see that Schroeder visited Bush before Vedrine... What's Germany's military capacities compared to France, after all? France already has several bases in the Indian Ocean that could make up for Saudi ones (Reunion Island, Seychelles, Djibouti,...)
