Wakeup call for NTAP engineering... See:http://www.bluearc.com/html/news/press_releases/pr_llnl_100801.shtml BlueArc just sold 5 systems to Lawrence Livermore labs. Four systems for a total of seven terabytes with the fifth system an additional four terabytes, a total of ELEVEN terabytes of storage that NTAP lost in this deal. NTAP just came out with the F880 which still uses a Pentium III processor. The Pentium IV processors have about 4 times the memory bandwith of the Pentium III - why isn't NTAP selling a higher performing system? Why is NTAP even giving BlueArc wiggle-room in the market? A quote from Lawrence Livermore: "BlueArc has solved exactly the right problems in storage," said Mark Seager, Assistant Department Head for Terascale Systems at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. "Lawrence Livermore's computing environments demand and get the latest and best solutions available. Where others couldn't deliver, BlueArc provided at least three to five times the performance of any competing system and yet remained less costly. It was a very clear choice for us." NTAP, time to wake up and bury these guys. You have better software and given a better engine (hardware), you can obliterate this company. Why wait?
