Reports in Pakistani newspapers..Government has decided to provide Pasni and Jacobabad air-bases to US and the position taken by Pakistan is that these facilities will be restricted to back-up support of US forces and no attack will be launched from these stations.

However, it is likely that these bases will be used for aerial support of US forces when the US starts its second phase of assault against Afghanistan with deployment of special ground forces. US ground forces have already gathered in Uzbekistan and as soon as US-European air forces completely destroy Taliban's defence line these forces will advance to launch an attack on Kabul, Kandahar and Jalalabad.

Sources said that American troops took over charge of Pasni airport last Sunday when America launched its attack on Afghanistan. One C-130 aircraft and five helicopters carrying American forces landed on that base which also took over the air-control tower. However, till now US forces have not used these facilities.

Although, it is unclear whether the government would provide more airbases to the US forces or not and how far it goes to support US attacks on Afghanistan, but it is likely that Pakistan's military cooperation will be broader when America starts its second phase of assaults.

Since US started attacks on Afghanistan, the Taliban have not been able to effectively retaliate against US air strikes but on Wednesday, Taliban sources claimed that they will retaliate and fire Scud missiles on US carriers in the Arabian Sea.
