Fast Eddy,

Welllllll, let's start with the idea that 100% of the airplane terrorists were aliens, some of them illegal. So, if we will tolerate the occasional Tim McVeigh/Waco/Ruby Ridge, then we don't have to change constitutional protection for citizens (although we know the havoc citizen criminals can do). But we can, by ceasing to be a geographical sieve, control and monitor aliens who come into this country.

Citizens have rights, duties and privileges here, we're born to it or naturalized to it; it's ours. Aliens are guests, they have only conditional privileges, something the Age of Laxness (1963-2001) has forgotten. How long do you think you would last in Zurich as an illegal alien, or in Pusan, or in Shanghai? Do you think you would be able to simply hang out for 6-9 months playing with the local judicial system with the aid of the local "ACLU"? I don't think so.

They would deport you veddy veddy fast and you'd have no one but yourself to blame.

I like this country lots, but the do-gooders and the social justice types pretty much drive me bananas, as does almost anything on the Grammy Awards.
