And what about aboveground Zionism? Will the inception of a sovereign Palestinian state quench rabid Zionists in the US, Israel, and elsewhere? What kind of "outplacement" did Israel allow for its "Mexican army" (that is, an army whose staff officers outnumber the rank and file --in French: une armee mexicaine) ? Think about it: dozens of Generals, colonels, majors, etc. ending up as redundant manpower.... And then, the whole Israeli military-industrial mammoth to get overhauled as well...
As for the impact on Islamic fanaticism, a Palestinian state would just take the wind out of its sails. Of course, the extremist fringe will always ask for more --for the wipe-out of Israel. So what, EVERY modern society does have its own "lunatic fringe(s)": Spain and the Basques, France and Corsica, Russia, Britain and the IRA, the US and its supremacist militias, Turkey and the PKK, etc, etc. Yet, all the above "civilized" countries deal with their breakaway fringes in a civilized way. After the Oklahoma City bombing, Prez Clinton didn't send off gunships over McVeigh's native burg to blow up his parents' home... Likewise, the Brits don't use laser-guided missiles to hit alleged terrorist dens in Catholic Dublin...
