[ALA. . .]

<<<Second, If AMTX helped ALA then its safe to assume that ALA's chips are OK now since AMTX has the best ADSL engineers in the world.>>>>

We're talking about two different chips. The first generation ALA chip has nothing to do with Amati and it's the only one out.

<<<Too bad ALA hasn't reciprocated by signing a licensing agreement in a timely manner.>>>

They've said they'd sign when they're ready to sell. Why tie up money before then?

<<<Third, give CSCO some credit for doing due diligence and researching the quality of ALA's chipsets before partnering. CSCO wouldn't foist "no good" technology on their customers. Chambers is smarter than that.>>>

There's a big difference between bidding X chip and actually using it. Cisco could certainly join an alliance with Alcatel based on their belief a viable chip would be ready when the needed it. Until that time they can use the early one for bidding purposes.

<<<I'm not saying that Mietec's chips are or ever will be better than CG or the C6X by all metrics, but they seem to be good enough that CSCO is comfortable putting the CSCO name on products that use 'em.>>

I'm not convinced Cisco's going to put its name on the current ALA solution no matter what the alliance suggests. I think they're smarter than that. In this we will have to agree to disagree.

Regards,

Pat
