The world will never be the same again. "HOLY GRAIL" of ASICS ships in quantity!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 2001-- QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM - news), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced production shipment of the QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies (QCT) MSM5100(TM) Mobile Station Modem (MSM(TM)) chipset and system software. There are currently more than 50 products in development by manufacturers worldwide, with initial launches anticipated by the end of the year. The MSM5100 solution allows manufacturers to develop state-of-the-art third-generation (3G) handsets that feature the highest level of integration and the most complete set of position location, multimedia and other advanced features available in the wireless industry.
``The MSM5100 solution is designed to address 3G requirements of carriers worldwide,'' said Don Schrock, president of QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. ``We are proud to see the strong and widespread market acceptance of CDMA2000 1X technology using the MSM5100 chipset and system software solution, which brings to market its accurate position location and advanced multimedia features.''
The MSM5100 chipset and system software is pin-compatible with the proven MSM3300(TM) chipset, decreasing time-to-market for handset manufacturers, and is designed with the flexibility to support global CDMA2000 1X market requirements and operator deployment strategies. Combining Wireless Internet Launchpad(TM) applications with 3G CDMA2000 1X technology, the MSM5100 solution delivers the highest level of system integration for 3G handsets. The MSM5100 chipset and system software solution supports the CDMA2000 Release 0 specification. The MSM5100 chipset is also capable of supporting up to 307 kilobits per second (kbps) in the forward link. Combining the high packet data capability with a rich set of applications -- including gpsOne(TM) position location support, Qtunes(TM) Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG-1) Layer-3 (MP3) player software, Compact Media Extension (CMX(TM)) Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI)-based multimedia software and Java -- the MSM5100 solution will drive the rollout of many new and differentiated devices to support the rapid growth of exciting new 3G services from operators worldwide. For the North America market, the MSM5100 system solution also supports the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Enhanced 911 (E911) mandate to provide emergency services to a growing subscriber base during 2002.
In addition to QCT's Wireless Internet Launchpad suite, the MSM5100 solution supports QUALCOMM's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless(TM) (BREW(TM)) applications platform, and enables low-cost implementation of Bluetooth(TM) connectivity by integrating a qualified Bluetooth baseband processor and software stack supporting the Bluetooth 1.1 specification.
The gpsOne solution, which integrates SnapTrack(TM) technology with Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite and network information, provides a high-availability solution that offers industry-leading accuracy and performance. The gpsOne solution will provide the world's most available and cost-effective solution for wireless position location technology in a mobile handset for CDMA cellular and Personal Communications Service (PCS) networks, and will meet the FCC mandate requiring wireless operators to provide the location of 911 calls. The MSM5100 solution will also enable a broad range of future 3G GPS-related software and services, including navigation information, area-specific weather forecasts, traffic reports and commercial tracking services, as well as a broad range of entertainment applications, including online chat and bulletin boards.

QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies Announces World's First Bluetooth-Qualified Commercial 3G Chipset
CDMA2000 1X MSM5100 Solution with Integrated Bluetooth Baseband Function Qualified for Bluetooth Version 1.1
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 2001-- QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM - news), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced the world's first Bluetooth(TM) version 1.1-compliant CDMA2000 1X commercial chipset, the QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies (QCT) MSM5100(TM) Mobile Station Modem (MSM(TM)) solution. The MSM5100 Bluetooth hardware and software have been formally qualified by the Bluetooth Qualification Body (BQB) from Cetecom, Inc., and formally listed in the Bluetooth Qualified Product List (BQPL). The specific components and profiles qualified include: Baseband, Link Manager Protocol (LMP), Logic Link Control and Adaptation Protocol (L2CAP), Serial Port Profile (SPP), Service Discovery Protocol (SDP) and Generic Access Profile (GAP). The MSM5100 chipset provides the most efficient means of integrating Bluetooth digital baseband processing into a comprehensive CDMA2000 1X chipset and system software solution, and will allow manufacturers to develop state-of-the-art Bluetooth enabled third-generation (3G) handsets.
``Our MSM5100 chipset and system software solution with Bluetooth is a fully tested, qualified and commercial product today,'' said Johan Lodenius, senior vice president of marketing and product management for QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. ``Qualcomm leads the industry in delivering the most advanced Bluetooth solution for 3G CDMA2000 1X handset manufacturers. The Bluetooth qualification is a very important step for the commercialization of Bluetooth technology as well as for the deployment of advanced 3G systems worldwide.''
Bluetooth is a short-range radio technology that eliminates the need for wired connections between digital devices, and is becoming an industry standard to ensure that computing and telecommunications equipment can communicate easily. Bluetooth provides a universal bridge to existing data networks, a peripheral interface, and a mechanism to form small, private ad hoc groupings of connected devices away from fixed network infrastructures.
The MSM5100 solution features the highest level of integration and the most complete set of position location, multimedia and other advanced features available in the wireless industry. The MSM5100 chipset incorporates QCT's Wireless Internet Launchpad(TM) suite, enabling a broad range of new terminal products, applications and Internet services, including gpsOne(TM) position location capabilities as well as multimedia features such as Qtunes(TM) Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG-1) Layer-3 (MP3) player software, and Compact Media Extension (CMX(TM)) Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI)-based multimedia software. The MSM5100 device also supports the Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless(TM) (BREW(TM)) applications platform.
