I might not go quite that far but I would go really close. IMO the statistical distribution of ethnicities in a technology conference or in most others situations is of little or no importance. People should be treated fairly as people, not favored or discriminated against based on their skin color or birth place, except in a few very special situations.

As an example a situation where ethnicity should be considered - Imagine that a police department or the FBI is trying to infiltrate and Asian gang. They might want to use an Asian person.
