Good question, Scott, seeing as how in the past several years I've played the Naz almost exclusively.

Usually about Sept/Oct of each year, I sort of close the books on the current year and start getting set up for next year. Oftentimes this makes me shift my style a bit.

I've had a good year swing trading the QQQ. But now, going into the 4th quarter, I'm already focusing on 2002. I wanted to play it a little safer the last quarter, and going into 2002, should I decide to hold my option positions that long. Remember some of my current positions are leaps, which I rarely do. Most of the time, I'm closer in.

I felt the Naz was still questionable, for the various reasons we all read about. So, to play it a bit safe, I simply picked out 3 big cap stocks I use to trade years ago, JNJ, MO, and GE. Granted they don't move a lot like the ole Naz whiz stocks do, but given what I said earlier, that fit my style for Q4.

Bottom line.... changed my style for Q4.
Lot of uncertainty, given world events, economy, etc.
Playing positions with a little less volatility.
Playing it a bit safer to close out the yr.
