Berney, it's not that simple.
You just don't hear opposite opinions anymore in US - a journalist who writes his opinion uncensored risks his job like Arabic citizens their lives in the proud bastion of free doom on your side of the pond.
So far we don't have this problem here - magazines like "Der Spiegel" publish the whole bandwith of US-opinions, we have (outside the government and the "free" TV networks powered by the military-industrial complex) critical discussions, hear voices from all sides. So far - no clue what will happen here when the war will escalate.
I understand you cannot understand my critical view - just due to the lack of independent information. It's not just a new phenomenon for us in the first world, we used to hear this uninterrupted praying of US-advantages for years, well aware that most of them could not stand a simple test.
It's the inbalance: We are overwhelmed by information about US, US-thinking, US-feelings, US-culture or even US-justice (biggest joke ever!) while most US-citizens have just a minimal clue what happens outside - and, let's be honest, they don't give a penny for. "Dumm fickt gut" - a German saying - could mean in a political environment: "As long as I'm not informed I can be proud."
I remember times when US visitors came to Europe with open minds - today they don't leave anymore "US-territory", jumping from the US plane in the US hotel, from the US bus in the US "restaurant". The experience of culture happens without risky comparisons.
You can measure freedom, Berney, when you look at the cost of spy spended by the nations. You can compare the respect of human rights when you count the killed persons or the expense of military actions. Or you can look at your own action-movies and learn the content if say Tom Cruse plays the CIA-agent. Movies are quite true picture of a society.
We can reach understanding when we can use the same information base. Guess, the problem increasing parts of the world have with US is that US is a great export-nation for information while insisting in an import-stop.
We went from Bin Laden - "just a symbol" (Scowcroft).
Don't forget: - it's a figure created by US activities. - his environment is a movement "produced" (Scowcroft) by US politics, US wars, US occupations in Arabic nations. - in this moment your forces "produce new terrorism in other regions" (Scowcroft)
Please understand my position right: what's on me you can shut him down, bomb him, Paul can send his Dobermans and Madame Gonzo's girlfriends can take a porn-movie with him for this Arab-CNN (before, during or after the bombing) - I don't care. But what the hell will this change?
The point is: You cannot put the US-roots aside and hate the results of earlier US aggression the same time, Berney - at least not without leaving the safe territory of logic ggg.
The only way I know (not me alone, of course), a way out of this cycle of violence and contra-violence can be international legislation, international courts, international say "police" - but, as we all know, the biggest criminal under all our criminal nations doesn't like the idea; you know whom I mean ;)
US will lose again, Berney - in your words: also this investment-strategy will result in a negative saldo for the public of US. You US guys still have lost a lot of your so loudly loved freedom. Nationalism and patriotism are bad surrogates for freedom, Berney, I've learned a lot about Nazis and experience a lot in and about the former "German Democratic Republic".
All totalitary regimes like banners and uniforms, suppress discussions and oppositional citizens.
All are religious fanatics.
Be careful.
It's your childrens future what your playing with.
Tomahawks can turn out to be Boomerangs.
Some "children" of Iowa come back home.
Remember:
US is just a part of America. America is just a part of the world.
God bless the world. He cannot bless a small part if the whole thing has broken.
Do you like brainfood? 40.000 US citicens must die year by year on the streets. |
