Kiser, chief scientific officer, is retiring from the Company effective December 31, 2001.

Kiser joined Vari-L in 1955, two years after his father founded the Company. Since that time he has served in a variety of capacities, including management and all aspects of product development, engineering and production. Under his direction, Vari-L became a technology leader for wireless products in the military/aerospace arena and, beginning in the mid 1990's, in the emerging commercial wireless industry. "Vari-L's status as a leading supplier of wireless communications components is largely attributable to the vision and commitment that Joe Kiser provided over nearly five decades with the Company," said Charles Bland, chief executive officer. "On behalf of all employees at Vari-L, we thank him for his many years of service and wish him well in the future." Bland noted that Kiser's duties as chief scientific officer would be jointly filled by Dan Wilmot, vice president of advanced technology, and Russ Crouch, vice president of engineering, and that Kiser would be available to Vari-L as a consultant on an as-needed basis.

"Vari-L has a strong group of talented engineers who are focused on enhancing and expanding our core technology for existing applications as well as developing new technologies for next-generation applications," said Kiser. "I believe the Company is ideally positioned from a technology standpoint to continue its tradition of growth."
