I know it violates the principles of capitalism somewhat, but my understanding is that the stadia generate so much tax revenue in the long run that they are good investments for the cities. Also, of course, there is an increasing trend to corporate sponsorship unrelated to the team, as a public relations gesture. Anyway, a negotiated salary is based on what is available, and what the player can command, given competition for his services. Thus, even with less revenue, the differences between players' salaries would tend to be maintained, signally the differences in importance to the owners, even though the dollar amount was reduced........
