I didn't think of the short covering but that's true. Check Barron's
for the latest short positions (Barron's is on line now but I'm not
sure if that feature is available).

Be careful of shorting MSFT; that company has one of the world's
greatest hype factories and that alone can carry the stock for a long
time. Also, they've made that deal with AOL to convert to their new
version of the Internet Explorer and are attempting other deals like
that. In addition, MSFT likes to kill off the competition even if
they have to give away the store to do it because they know that once
the competition croaks, they can charge whatever the market will bear
and get all of it. Also, it's very difficult to get the true figures
on the NT ("New Technology") sales, both the o/s and the server, so at
this point no one can say for sure what's going to happen. MSFT is
saying that they don't need to make a cent from the internet which I
take as meaning an all-out assault on Netscape no matter what the cost
and then when Netscape is a shadow of its former self, once again MSFT
can hog the bulk of another market. I'm rooting for Netscape to keep
ahead of the game and, so far, they seem to be doing just that, but
with MSFT in the picture and going after their market by hook or by
crook, that's all I'm doing: rooting for them, but not betting on it
by buying their stock.
