I think he did those things because, once he realized he had no choice but to cooperate with the US, he had to cover himself in anticipation of the coup or assassination attempts which would appear to be inevitable.

I do hope that he pursues peace with India. I did not get the impression in watching his press conference that he was interested in doing so, but I would be glad to be proven wrong.

Also, the people he kicked out of the government may yet be free to wreak havoc or assist others in doing so. We'll have to wait and see.
