What I'm lamenting is that most companies all march to the same beat today with regard to squeezing labor/equipment costs, while at the same time boosting top salaries into the stratosphere. Used to be, not so long ago, the average CEO made 65X what his journeyman assembly-line worker made. Now that ratio is much, much higher ... perhaps 400X or even 500X. (I recall seeing the exact number, but can't recall it specifically.) We had a corporate big shot visit our plant recently. First question one of the rank and file asked was how can we be expected to do our jobs with outdated, 20-year-old equipment? A few questions later, someone asked how the company could justify hundreds of thousands of dollars in bonuses for the few at the top while we're working with outdated equipment and being asked to contribute more and more every year to our health insurance plan. Both answers were evasive.

Bottom line: The corporate suits with MBAs don't give a rat's ass about workers anymore. They're just a liability.
