Russia shares rise midday on crude price gains

MOSCOW - Key Russian shares posted gains for a third day on Thursday,
boosted by increased foreign buying as signs of consolidation in crude prices
revived investor appetites.

But traders said the climate of global uncertainty meant the week's miniature
rally would likely be short-lived and Russians were generally in a mood to
sell.

The key RTS index jumped up 3.26 percent to 189.80 on reported volume
$12.5 million of by 1100 GMT. The Reuters Russian Composite was up
2.67 percent at 1,200.69.

Traders said foreign demand throughout Russian oil paper, as well as utility
Unified Energy System and Rostelekom was outweighing Russian
participants' inclination to take profits after the three-day rise.

Renaissance Capital trader Dmitry Kulyashenets said Thursday's rises in oil
prices were working in favour of rises on the commodity-heavy Russian
market. /Reuters/
