Linux users threaten AMD boycott

AMD'S DECISION to name its latest Athlon processors after Windows XP has backfired badly. Linux users are threatening a worldwide boycott of all AMD products if the XP moniker remains.
"Like, I love AMD man, the Athlon rocks, but no way I'm buying anything with XP in the name," says haXoR339, financial controller of Linux software developer Funky Penguin.
"Wow, this sucks real bad, dude," adds Linux guru Burgess Meredith. "How Jerry could sell out to The Man is just unbelievable. Using even the name of a Microsoft product is anathema to any true geek. Looks like Pentium 4's the only game in town from now on."
AMD has a sizeable cult following amongst Linux users, who constitute a substantial 0.000000001 per cent of the worldwide desktop operating system market, but an AMD spokesman says the company isn't worried by the threat of Linux users defecting:
"Thanks to our new PR rating for market share statistics, AMD now has 105 per cent of the world market for CPUs, leaving Intel with a paltry 80 per cent." µ |
