I see where a professor of Islamic studies conducted a survey of educated Saudi Arabians recently and found that 100% of the women and 85% of the men supported Ossama bin Laden. They did not say in this study whether the paricipants thought he was guilty of bombing the WTC, or the embassy in Kenya or the SS Cole.
I think in light of the results of this study, that the US government has a tad more of a problem on its hands with Muslim countries than it thinks, or will admit publicly. And possibly a tad more a problem with Muslims than it thinks.
Irrespective of a Muslims' right to their opinion on the Palestinian refugee question and the Israeli treatment of the Palestinians with regard to Statehood or homelands, it would appear that backing of, the violent "solution" of the terroristic and purposeful killing of civilians en masse, or any one accused of that act, is an extremist position.
According to the survey, educated Saudi's and probably by implication, most Muslims, are extremists and violently opposed to the USA. This is very disturbing. No matter how many educated Muslims inveigh with soothing words about rabble rousing press, the supposed limited numbers of extremists, and lack or support for violence, the results of the study speak volumes about whether we can ever eventually come to agreements that will guarantee peace in the ME.
Can we even believe the sincerity of these moderate Islamic apologist's words? Are these pious pronouncements of peace and harmony merely cynical apologia, designed to lull our senses into a false sense of security? We would like to believe not. Why not replace these words with deeds, if they so fervently hold them?
If we cannot convince the Muslims that backing a Hitler like figure is inimical to our values then we must put them as a politico-religious group on the pariah list, and act with all concern, caution, and prejudice to protect our lives, our property and our future. Otherwise, given time, the opposedness of these people, their fanatical zeal and their apparent predisposition to cruelty and violence, we won't have secure future.
